As a nation, we are quite selective in what we remember and what we forget. That can distort the significance of the things we do remember, stripping them of important context.

On 11 November, we remember our war dead. Some may also remember the death of a bushranger, Ned Kelly. More will focus this year on the 50th anniversary of the Dismissal of the Whitlam government.
