Years ago when I was in Shanghai
doing my MA
in Aust. Lit.
we had a treat
when we got shown
a number
of Australian films
including one featuring kids
on bicycles and the beaches
I went with great
expectations
I fell asleep halfway through
and I went back to my dormitory
and told my roommates how good
the films were
this morning, decades after
when I saw a pretentious guy
on the ABC morning show
I said to my wife:
Australian films are no good
when the memory came back, in that instant
