My Country

Marion Kickett

Spring 2025

Growing up and living on Country is something I had always taken for granted. It wasn’t until I was older and started to meet other Aboriginal people, and truly heard their stories, that I realised just how fortunate I was. I had taken a great deal of my lived experience for granted. I always knew who I was and where I belonged from a young age. I would soon learn that this was not the case for many other Aboriginal people.

Meeting other Aboriginal people, I learned that many were members of the Stolen Generations. I learned that my mother was also a member of the Stolen Generations, but she had not shared all of her story with me. I believe everyone has a different story and, like my mother, will only share part of their story.
