This year marks the seventy-fifth year of Meanjin’s existence and, as this has always been a journal that celebrates the collision of disparate voices and ideas, it seems fitting to announce that the next four issues, compiled during our anniversary year, will each be guest edited. Australians with different backgrounds and perspectives will continue to deliver a Meanjin that challenges and surprises. I am very pleased to announce that the first guest editor will be Hilary McPhee.

At the end of what promises to be a fascinating year for this magazine, John van Tiggelen will take over as editor of Meanjin. Anyone who cares about good writing in Australia will be familiar with John’s work in ‘The Good Weekend’ and the Monthly, for example. He was editor of the Monthly from 2012 to 2014 and his wealth of experience and editorial instincts will be enormous assets to this publication.
