When Facebook Becomes Art
April 29
Facebook status updates are fast becoming art (Twitter will surely be next). In September (Vol 67/3), Meanjin published this poem by James Bradley:
Veronica is painting her nails.
Jordan is buying a new TV.
Kate is at work.
Tom is having issues.
Chen is in Coorain.
Noah is beginning to suspect the meaning of life might have been inside that fortune cookie he ate.
Harriet is waiting for inspiration to strike.
Jasmin is procrastinating.
Geordie is discombobulating.
Mia is wondering who tried opening her door at four a.m. last night.
Denise is realising her parents were right all along.
Zoe is wishing the phone would ring.
Hannah is somehow less than she once was.
David is waiting.
Anna is alone.
And, mashable.com has recently reported on these oil paintings by American artist Stacey Williams-Ng, who has used her friends’ status updates as inspiration. Favourites are her interpretation of ‘Molly E. is hot for Robert Frost’ and ‘Rafiq A: Spring… the end of my winter of discontent or just the next pithy chapter?’

Reminds me of a poem I wrote five years back, based on the TV guide synopses of Home and Away. A sample:
"Rebecca tells Justine that she should feel more comfortable with her own sexuality. Will is not happy being tutored by his girlfriend. With no money and no job, Irene is desperate. Sally refuses to clean up around the house any longer. Tiegan suspects Sam likes Daria more than she likes him. Chloe is confused and shocked to see Lachie being wheeled into intensive care. Joel promises to watch Tom in the sprint race. Lilian declares war on Gypsy. Vinnie lands himself in trouble. Joey forges Lachie's signature. Sam discovers his dream girl is a hippie."

Do you think David and Anna could be introduced to each other?
