The Cutting Room Floor

If you’ve come this far, you will have noticed the illustrations on the Meanjin home page. While Meanjin has included illustrations in its pages in the past, it hasn’t really been a feature in its own right. The illustrations on the home page are a highlight of the new website called The Cutting Room Floor Project.
Meanjin is always exploring new avenues to showcase and support local talent. The launch of the new website has made way for the project. Curated by designer Jenny Grigg, The Cutting Room Floor Project promotes local artists and illustrators.
The name of the project is a nod to the work that artists have in their sketchbooks – incomplete, unfinished or evolving. ‘Artists always have a collection of work lying around’, Jenny says, and the project enables artists to feature work that has not been seen or exhibited previously.
The plan for the project is that the artists featured will be rotate, and the repertoire of artists will built up over time. The Cutting Room Floor Project launches by showcasing work from Clemens Harbicht, an Australian artist living in Paris, Tasmanian artist Tony Thorne and, of course, Oslo Davis. Watch this space for future developments.
