I am not a person who generally feels well-informed; for a year I called our Prime Minister Julia Jillard. So I’ve been reading a series of remedial primers, the Oxford Very Short Introduction.  >

Record Cover Art: Hvass&Hannibal and Others

JA February 21

The Creative Review Blog have been doing some spectacular posts on record cover art for some years now. There are really too many to talk up in full, but I do want to spotlight this beautiful rendition of Danish band Efterklang's new album Magic Chairs by arts and design studio Hvass&Hannibal. To me it looks like some kind of cold, bright, slightly muted carnival. Hvass&Hannibal dyed all the ribbons by hand and shot the artwork in Copenhagen's Thorvaldsen’s Museum with photographer Brian Buchard. There is a great behind the scenes post about the process on their blog - be sure to check other their other album covers here and here.

A few other samples are below. You can browse through some of Creative Review's archives here.

Svensk-front CD pack for Svensk Indie 1988-2006, released by by Nons Records, designed by Edvard Scott.

Front Pepe Deluxé's Spare Time Machine, released by Catskills, designed by Jari Salo and Vilunki Viljakainen. It almost has a kind of seventies steampunk feel.

Jazz album1 Jazzanova's Of All The Things, designed by Hort. My typography fetish means I couldn't go past this one.
