Paper Art
June 12
My, the things they do with paper these days – they make my attempts at the humble origami crane or paper aeroplane seem laughable. Who knew you could pull off something so wonderful with nothing by an A4 sheet and a Stanley knife?
These are some fantastic examples of various paper art (you can see more and also find out about the artists here). I love the humour and delicacy in some of these pieces, like Peter Callesen’s falling skeleton, and also the burst of colour and geometry in the sculptures by Jen Stark and Elisa Mora. Another favourite are the ‘book autopsies’ done by Brain Dettmer, who apparently uses scalpels, tweezers and other medical instruments to dissect and carve antiquarian books (usually, I’d think this was sacrilege, but the end result is truly grand).
