I’m not much of a brain as far as the gadgets go, but lately I have come across a few interesting things out there on the World Wide Web that might be useful to various literary bodies. Here’s a quick run through.
Mac Freedom
For those needing to exercise a great amount of self-control, this program apparently allows you to disable your connection to the internet/various networking sites for a set period of time. The minimum set time is 10 minutes, max 8 hours. Only for Mac users or equivalents of Justin Long.
Tag Galaxy
This is a pretty amazing combination of smooth website design and infographics. Tag Galaxy allows you to search for photos via Flickr as if you were searching through infinite space, gradually narrowing down your fields. The site was designed by Steven Wood as part of a diploma thesis and is a great way to source quality images.
Stories in Flight
The brainchild of Thomas Sturm, Stories in Flight is an ongoing project that aims to look at storytelling in a digital age. Flickrpoet, for example, allows you match images to any bit of text, lyrics or prose copied and pasted into the search box. Similarly, #haiku does the same with any tweets feautring the #haiku hashtag. Doesn’t always work (rather odd images paired up with rather plain text), but worth a look nonetheless.

Thanks so much for the link to Mac Freedom. It may or may not have just saved me from myself.

No worries - if I but had a mac it might have saved me from myself. Sadly, it's not to be.
