My, You Dapper Things – Writers with Style
May 09
Tilley hats, pinstripes, houndstooth vests, fedoras, cigarette holders and fur-lined coats – my how they wrote and my how they dressed.
Oscar Wilde takes the cake here, with decadence and flair worthy of Dorian Gray. I especially like the blue pinstripe pants, pink flower in the lapel and all-round debonair manner. Jean Cocteau comes in close second (is it just me or is there is something eagle-like about this pose?). I also like Anaïs Nin with her thinly plucked eyebrows and black nails, as well as Karen Blixen (aka. Isak Denison) looking wonderful at 69 in an extravagant Pierrot costume.

Great! I was already stressing about my author photo and now I've got to contend with being reminded about style! ;-)

Wilde was a notorious one on the style front. Apparently he
often had his Oxford living quarters ransacked by other students
who didn't approve of his style: peacock feathers, etc.
