MWF: Killing, Hoaxes and Other People's Stories
JA
August 19

The Melbourne Writers’ Festival is all but upon us! It’s a packed schedule, full of literary goodness, with authors such as Margo Lanagan, Christos Tsiolkas, Steven Amsterdam, MJ Hyland and many more cramped into the venues around Fed Square. Here’s a quick reminder of the events Meanjin ed Sophie Cunningham will be taking part in. Hurry and book as tickers are selling out fast.
Killing
Inspired by a mummified head of a Turkish soldier – a bullet-ridden souvenir brought home from Gallipoli – Jeff Sparrow attempts to understand the nature of deadly violence. How did ordinary people, whether in today’s wars or in 1915, learn to take a human life? He talks with Sophie Cunningham on what violence means, not just for perpetrators, but for all of us. Book here.
When: Sat 22 Aug, 10am
Where: ACMI Studio 2, Federation Square, Melbourne.
From Ern to Quadrant: The Cause and Effect of Australian Hoaxes
