Magazines in the Age of the iPad

A while ago I linked to this brilliant concept video by the R&D arm of Swedish media giant Bonnier and London design firm BERG on the magazine of the future. Now, with the advent of the iPad, the two have adapted their Mag+ prototype to work with Apple’s newest gadget, using Popular Science+ as the first cab off the rank. Their way of adapting text to the ereader format is truly exciting – many of the hallmarks of reading print, such as dog-earring and page ‘flipping’, are kept in yet improved in a way that makes the movement seem natural and unforced. Equally background photography and double-page spreads – often a key feature in print – has been preserved and placed alongside the added bonuses of search functions, easily accessible contents pages and options to purchase. This is information streamlined and reinvented – have a look and see (via Kottke).
