Kinetic Typography
JA
April 25
Kinetic typography, as the name suggests, basically involves using text and motion to explore the ways in which feelings and ideas are conveyed. It's clearly gathering a lot of momentum online - so far, I've found videos for Back to the Future, Fight Club and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas as well as whole vimeo channels devoted to the technique. I've posted one sequence of type animation on Spike before, but I couldn't resist linking to this video on Star Wars ReTyped for Sunday, found via Ampersand Duck.
Also if interest might be this award-winning video by Netherland-based Studio Smack, highlighting the impact of everyday visual stimuli in urban spaces.

I really love this technique, though so far my favourite has got to be this scene from The Big Lebowski:

That's one of the best ones I've seen yet.

The top video was fantastic. There was a was solid but underlying consistency between the letters. They appeared seemingly at random, but nothing was jarring about it.
