Design: The Concept of Shelf
July 04
There’s no dignified way to say this – these bookshelves are just so awesomely cool. Really creative and beautiful ways to fill every available edifice and every blank wall of your home with books. The bookcase door is just so very Sherlock Holmes, the bookchair so very comfortably practical, and the sloping shelves of the Etageres a livres so very like a giant gumball dispenser.
The designs that follow are:
Stair(book)case by Levitate Architects
Juxtaposed by Mike and Maaike
The Bookdoor (which you can buy from Woodfold)
The expanding ‘REK Bookcase’ by Reinier de Jong
Extended Cab by Sloom & Slordig (who also do this display of modern chaos)
The Bookinist by Nils Holger Moormann
The Conceal Bookshelf
Etageres a livres by MoCo Loco.

It took me a while to work out what was good about no. 3 — I thought it looked pretty ordinary. Then the penny dropped.
