And now for a good review . . .
May 28
Obviously, I'm delighted with this review of Spike by sometime Meanjin contributor James Bradley. I draw it to your attention because a) he's picked up what we are trying to do with Spike and for that I am very grateful and b) because I want to take the chance to thank Jessica Au for the great posts she's done for Spike in the last few weeks. We're very lucky to have her.

I agree, JA's thoughts are great to read.

Aw shucks thanks Sophie! Is it going to be read as too much back scratching if I say your posts are great too (apart of course from the LOlcats)? Thanks to James for picking up the vibe of Spike and liking what we like.

How can you not love a lolcat? looks bewildered

I like it very much too - can I just ask (and I hope this isn't rude), but you know that banner down the bottom - would there be any way to make that a bit smaller. Or even disappear altogether. Maybe it's just me and my computer, but the black Meanjin Quarterly banner stays in the foreground which means half of the blog text stays behind it. It's very frustating and means that I mostly just read Spike in my reader, which means I miss all the comments.
It's just me, isn't it?

No, it's not just you! We need to work on the navigation and a few design issues. That's being done at the moment.

I love a LOLcat just as much as you love Whack-a-kitty (which you can enjoy all over again here: http://www.bookninja.com/?p=5439#comments)

Thanks for your speedy reply! And thanks for your awesome blog, especially because I'm not in Australia at the moment and can't really afford to get my subscriptions sent over here (they're piling up at my mother-in-law's for one massive, enormous catch-up when I visit home).
Also, how can you not like lolcats? Like, rlly?

I'm probably putting myself up for all sorts of slandering here, but how can you find LOlcats funny?? As in really truly deeply funny. They're like those tacky birthday cards at the newsagents...

I went to a 2007 Halloween party with my best friend who dressed as a LOLcat; a cat suit, white paper hung around her neck, which read 'I Iz Eating All Yr Party Snacks. LOLcats were dead to me after that.
Congrats on the blog and James' review. It really is a great thing - and I can only see it getting bigger.

ah, see, I loves me a tacky card from the newsagent

Couldn't find a picture of friend in cat suit with sign, but could find a picture of the sign by itself - correction sign read: 'IM IN UR PARTY EATIN UR SNACKS'
