A Quickening of Interest: The Meanjin Papers

The Australia Project is an online initiative that seeks ‘to explore and redefine clichéd national stereotypes in the hope of revealing unique and personal perspectives on Australia today’. To this end, they have asked various creative types and the general public to submit their impressions of national identity, with a view to sparking debates and debunking popular myths.
Meanjin ed Sophie Cunningham and designer Stuart Geddes of Chase & Galley were two of the creative minds asked to take part and here’s the end result – Meanjin’s striking original ‘footprint’ covers from 1942 and 1945 overlaid with bold, lyrical text from Clem Christesen’s earliest editorials.
