Seminar: The Amplified Author - Exploring New Business Models For Writers with Cory Doctorow

PLEASE NOTE: THIS SESSION WILL NOW TAKE PLACE ON MONDAY 6 SEPTEMBER, 5PM, THE WHEELER CENTRE. All existing ticket holders should contact our Box Office on 9999 1199 with any queries.

What are the business models for an individual author today?

The traditional publishing contract is still prized by many writers, but there are now lots of pathways for writers to build relationships with readers and get paid for it. Free content supported by donations or advertising, freemium, subscription, self-publishing and other models are all emerging alongside the old 10% royalty model. Are they viable?

Cory Doctorow will explore these concepts and host a discussion about possible futures for writers seeking a sustainable engagement with audiences. Cory will also explain his progress in his latest venture to self-publish his short story collection, with a little help from his friends.

When: Monday Sept 6, 5-8pm

Where: The Wheeler Centre, Melbourne

Tickets are $60/$55, available from the festival website.

Cory Doctorow is brought to you by Meanland, if:book Australia, The Wheeler Centre and Melbourne Writers Festival.
